Understanding coaching

What is life coaching, and how can it help me?

Coaching gives you time and space to think about your life - with someone who listens closely, asks thoughtful questions, and helps you turn what you discover into action.

Whether you’re navigating a change, feeling stuck, or wondering what’s next, coaching can help you find clarity, build confidence, and move forward in ways that fit you.

Explore what coaching is and how it can help.

What kinds of things can we work on together?

We can explore life transitions, relationships, boundaries, confidence, priorities, purpose, and the changes you want to make.

Perhaps you’re navigating empty nesting, a breakup, retirement, or a new direction. Or perhaps nothing dramatic has happened - you simply want more from your life. You don’t need a crisis to benefit from coaching.

How is coaching different from therapy?

Coaching supports personal growth, choices, goals, and action. Therapy can address those areas too, while also providing assessment and treatment for mental health concerns and working with trauma.

As your coach, I don’t diagnose or treat mental health conditions. We’ll discuss whether coaching fits your needs, and I’ll let you know if another kind of professional support would be more appropriate.

Will you tell me what to do?

Your life belongs to you, and so do your decisions. I’ll offer observations, questions, tools, and honest feedback to help you find your own answers.

I may challenge an assumption or invite you to consider another perspective. We’ll explore possibilities together, and you choose what fits.

Are there professional standards for coaching?

Yes. The International Coaching Federation (ICF) publishes professional standards, core competencies, and a code of ethics.

I am a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC), trained through the Coaches Training Institute, and I am committed to following ICF ethical standards.

Is coaching right for me?

What if I don’t know what I want yet?

That’s a perfectly reasonable place to begin. You may know that something feels off without knowing what you’d like instead.

We can start with what you’re noticing and explore your needs, values, and possibilities. Clarity can be part of the work.

What if I know what I want but have trouble following through?

We can explore what makes follow-through difficult and find ways to move forward that fit your life.

Sometimes the next step needs to be smaller. Sometimes competing priorities, old habits, or uncertainty need attention. Coaching offers a place to work through those obstacles, try things, and learn from what happens.

Can I work with a coach while also seeing a therapist?

Yes, coaching and therapy can sometimes complement each other when their roles are clear and coaching is appropriate for your situation.

You’re welcome to tell me about other support you receive so we can discuss how coaching might fit. Any communication with another professional would require your permission.

How will I know if you’re the right coach for me?

We’ll begin with a conversation about what brings you here, what you hope to get from coaching, and how I work.

You’ll have room to ask questions and get a sense of our connection before deciding. A good fit matters to both of us.

Working with Kelli

What can I expect from you as my coach?

You can expect attentive listening, thoughtful questions, honest observations, practical tools, and a sense of humor.

I’ll support you, challenge you when it serves your growth, and help you notice possibilities you may have overlooked. We’ll make room for both reflection and action, with respect for your choices and what matters to you.

What happens during a coaching session?

We begin with what would be useful to explore that day. You might bring a decision, a challenge, an idea, or something you’ve noticed since our last conversation.

Through questions and discussion, we look for greater understanding and possible ways forward. We may finish with an action, an experiment, or something to reflect on before we meet again.

What is my role in the coaching process?

Bring your questions, your experiences, and a willingness to explore. You don’t need polished answers or a perfect progress report.

The work also happens between sessions as you try new approaches and make choices. If something doesn’t go as planned, we can learn from that together.

Can I contact you between sessions?

Yes. You can email me when something comes up between our meetings. Sometimes a brief exchange can help you work through a question or keep moving.

We’ll clarify the between-session support included in your coaching arrangement and what to expect for responses.

Are our conversations confidential?

Confidentiality is central to our work. I treat what you share with care and follow the confidentiality terms in our coaching agreement.

Before we begin, we’ll discuss those terms, including any exceptions, so you understand how your information is handled.

Sessions, pricing, and commitment

How do we meet, and how often?

We’ll discuss the session format, length, and frequency when we explore working together. The arrangement should support what you want to accomplish and give you time to put discoveries into practice between conversations.

How much does coaching cost?

The investment depends on the coaching arrangement and level of support you choose.

During our introductory conversation, I’ll explain the available options, what each includes, and the commitment involved so you can make an informed decision.

How long would we work together?

We’ll discuss an initial commitment based on the coaching option you choose. That gives us time to explore what matters, put ideas into practice, and review what you’re learning.

As we go, we’ll check in about your progress and what support would be useful next.

Can I continue with lighter support after my initial program?

We can discuss maintenance or accountability support when you’re ready for less frequent sessions but would still value a place to reflect, stay focused, and follow through.

What if I need to reschedule a session?

Please give me at least 24 hours’ notice by email, text, or phone so we can arrange another time.

Your coaching agreement explains the cancellation and rescheduling policy, including how shorter-notice changes are handled.

How do I pay for coaching?

Your invoice will provide payment instructions. You can also view available billing information and payment options in your private client area.

We’ll confirm your payment schedule and accepted methods before we begin.

Getting started

How do I begin?

Use the Contact Kelli form or call me at 617-633-3588.

If you submit the form, I’ll reach out personally using the contact information you provide, and we can arrange a time to talk. Submitting the form doesn’t commit you to coaching.

Private client area and resources

What is the private client area?

It’s the online space we use for the forms, documents, resources, and billing information made available to you during our work together.

I’ll provide access instructions when we get started.

How do I log in?

Use the Login link on this website and enter your login details.

If you haven’t received access instructions or need help getting into your account, email me at kelli@kelliannrobertson.com.

What if I forget my password or can’t log in?

Use the password-recovery option on the login screen and follow the instructions provided.

If that doesn’t resolve the issue, contact me for help. You don’t need to send me your password.

Can I change my password?

You can manage your password through the account or profile settings available in your client area. If you can’t find the option, let me know and I’ll help.

How is my information protected?

The Coaches Console provides a password-protected client portal and HTTPS encryption for information transmitted through the website. I also have access to the information needed to support our work together.

For more about how information is collected and used, please read this website’s Privacy Policy (page coming soon).
